I bet right now you think that there is no and there will never be any connection between plants and cars besides the Lotus which is both flower and a British sports car. I shall confess not so long ago I shared the same conservative attitude for an eventual partnership between a sunflower and a BMW. However, quite by accident, in 2011, I was united with an article which shattered my earlier assumptions.
The newborn concept of Mercedes BIOME is a luxurious transportation machine but also, wait for it, – a plant. No, this is not a joke or some sort of twisted metaphor. The car model is literally a plant. I know the image is hard to digest and I officially permit you to be utterly disturbed by the following details. The revolutionary BIOME grows in lab conditions, a far cry from the average workshop. Yes, it grows. But how does it do that? Well, it has its own DNA. For almost a year now, I am still stunned by that statement. However, it appears that the Mercedes’ engineers find it quite an ordinary thing to say.
The project-guru, Hubert Lee, randomly mentions: “The Mercedes-Benz BIOME is a natural technology hybrid, and forms part of our earth’s ecosystem. It grows and thrives like the leaves on a tree.” If you found that confusing, just wait to hear about the production process: “The interior grows from the DNA in the Mercedes star on the front of the vehicle, while the exterior grows from the star on the rear… [T]he genetic code is combined with the seed capsule [and] the wheels are grown from four separate seeds.”
Dazzling indeed. Though, the best part is still to come. That is, the BIOME may be the answer to the enormous polemics about car-produced air pollution. One billion vehicles are currently buzzing around the globe with a monstrous degree of carbon dioxide contamination-capacity. A technical venture has been to reduce this polluting aspect. Unfortunately, all suggestions either fail its “green” task or are impractical due to power or maintenance deficiencies. BIOME, however, terminates this ill-fated pattern with its unparalleled quasi-fuel. The BioNectar4534 is chemically activated by solar energy and guess what – the final product is pure oxygen!
It is also actually pretty logical since it is a living organism but maybe you will be distressed to discover that BIOME eventually dies. But do not be troubled. Should your beloved car decease, you are kindly asked to plant it in the nearest garden. And voila – a tree grows out of it. I am really looking forward to the moment when car junk yards will be largely out of fashion and automobile gardens are the commonplace. Despite the fact that BIOME is still under DNA construction, the plant-cars, I assure you, will become a fixed ingredient to our daily life redefining the idea of transport. Brilliant human intelligence is now on the right road to the automotive salvation.
